Spring Meeting Notes
We had a very low turn-out for the April 16th meeting, but it was not unexpected. We have a large district (186 miles long x 73 miles wide) and driving distance is a significant issue. I will try to plan an alternative electronic meeting next fall.
However, past GLMA president Barbara Hallstrom and DeKalb County media specialist Janice Sly graciously altered their
Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl interactive presentation. We learned some very important and practical tips on starting system level reading teams. Plans are in the works for an Upson County elementary team and a Spalding County high school team. If you want your school to participate in this rapidly growing program, please see the
Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl web site at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/~canbylane/hrrb/HRRB.htm

Restore the Funds!
The state legislature will continue to meet through April 24. Gov. Perdue’s education budget is still being debated in the House and Senate. The FTE allotment for media funding stands at $9.77. Still in question is whether the state or local school systems will control how the funds are spent. GLMA leaders have been working to represent media specialists’ interests and needs to the legislature.
GLMA’s new web site, created by Zenith Design Group, will soon be online. District 3 information will be posted there.
